ᚼᛁᛆᚱᛐᛆᚿᛋ songs do not only describe the search for adventure and magic in the Old Empire. ᚼᛁᛆᚱᛐᛆᚿᛋ is also a safe space for letting the heart sing about the deepest joys and sorrows of life. It's about celebrating old and new friends, and all who are no longer with us. It's about facing the toughest challenges and hardships, fighting to keep a positive outlook on the future.
The Last Embers of the Fire sings the story of a traveller at the end of the road, after time and frost took their deadly toll. But, in the final hours, the traveller is not alone. Loved ones are there to welcome them and to be with them until the end. It's a warm embrace that gives hope even where hope seems lost. And the traveller can finally rest until the last embers of the fire have glowed in all their beauty.
There are many names to the cold. The Last Embers of the Fire focus on Alzheimer's disease as seen from the point of view of both patients and caregivers. The lyrics and song titles are adapted from poems written by caregivers. The only exception is track 3, inspired by my own struggles with a physical disability.
Track 5 is dedicated to A.V. and to all the grandmothers in the world.
The album was designed for the 2022 Winter Rush Challenge, but is not an official submission. The... rules were:
Two instruments (but no restrictions on FX)
Eight songs with a total length between 11 and 41 minutes
Incorporate themes of memory
Incorporate your voice (doesn't count as one of the instruments)
My two instruments of choice were the Modal Cobalt5s and the Dreadbox Nyx v2 (the drums on track 3 are the only violation to the two instruments limitation). Since I am not the best of singers, I have joined forces with my sister, who gets credit for the vocals on tracks 3 and 7. The instrumental version of tracks 1, 3 and 7 are included as bonus tracks.
The Last Embers of the Fire didn't end up as a typical dungeon/fantasy synth album. However, it is a faithful representation of who I am musically: at the crossroads between genres, influences, themes. Such ᚼᛁᛆᚱᛐᛆᚿᛋ ᛐᚬᚿᛚᛁᛋᛐ, music of the heart, is the very essence of the ᚼᛁᛆᚱᛐᛆᚿᛋ project.
